OUR SWIM TRAINERS

We believe that when you do things with passion magic happens!

The Sandown Swimming school has partnered with 2 very experienced swimming teachers, whom have years of teaching experience.
Our trainers are passionate about learning and development, are patient and start with the end result in mind.

Our teachers use the interactive, participative and confidence building approach during lessons. As swimming is not just a life skill but also an opportunity for young people to engage, take instructions, laugh and share their thoughts – we prefer to guide and nurture as opposed to simply just tell.

All our trainers are qualified swim SA instructors with up to date first aid certificates.

“Swimming has always been an outlet and de-stressor from me, right from my childhood days. So becoming a swimming instructor was a natural fusion of my two passions in life, the water and teaching. I have been teaching toddlers right through to adults to swim for 18 years, starting in my varsity days. I am also a full-time primary school teacher, teaching for 18 years now. Helping individuals to succeed both in the water and out is what drives me day in and day out. The reward and satisfaction I receive from my pupil’s success is priceless to me, and always keeps me coming back for more.”

My love for the water started when I was a provisional swimmer in my childhood. My passion for working with children began when I studied Foundation phase teaching. I began teaching swimming and helped set up various swim schools for the Health and Racquet clubs in and around Johannesburg. In 1993 I opened my own swimming school in Sandton called Cheryl’s Swimming school and enjoyed operating a successful swim school for many years. Over the 35 years that I have been teaching swimming, I have gained experience in teaching all ages from babies up until adults . I have knowledge of various teaching methods and always try to remain up to date with new swimming developments

“My love for swimming and passion for teaching culminates in the pool. It gives me pleasure and a great sense of achievement helping children and adults in overcoming their inabilities and fears in the water to become confident and able, water safe swimmers. I have over 14 years of experience as a qualified swimming instructor specialising in children, as early as 2 years of age to adults. I will love to share my passion for water with all my students.”
